The Battle of the Ebook Readers Has Changed!
We all know the iPad from Apple is on it’s way to the public, so it’s going to be even harder for people to choose the best ebook reader for them. Or is it? It looks like it may be a simple choice when comparing the Nook, Sony Reader, Kindle 2 or iPad. Depending on a buyer’s budget, it’s going to be between the Kindle 2 or iPad. Here’s why.
The Kindle 2- Amazon has never been baffled as to what this device will do. It’s an ebook reader and doesn’t try to be anything else. It could be seen as the simplest design of the ebook readers with it’s push button navigation and complete gray-scale show . Obviously there is not any added excitement to this device except you are reading a fantastic book on it.
The Nook, but , has been half-heartedly trying to be a pseudo- super device, with it’s Android software and hope that developers will make apps for the ebook reader. What apps? Are they going to work on the 1″ navigation screen? That’s some pretty huge restrictions for a developer, isn’t it? Maybe we will see.
The Sony Reader Daily Edition- The Sony Reader Touch and Pocket Edition are obviously just an ebook reader. The touch having a small more robust memory, operating power, and touch screen show . The Daily Edition is the newest of the 3 models that offers a larger screen, touch screen, wireless and 3G, and other fantastic facial appearance making it a quality e-reader.
IPad and other ebook readers- With the release of the iPad, it could be argued that some of these devices above have completely lost their appeal.
The Nook has always been a wonder to some as to what it is trying to be. It has a color screen and robust operating logic to attract developers. So is it trying to be an iPad-like device? Or is it trying to be an ebook reader first and foremost?
The release of the Daily Edition by Sony is reasonably unfortunate for them. The pricing is very similar to the iPad, so by no stretch of the view , they will lose some potential customers.
So the Kindle 2 is the least baffled product between the ebook readers. It’s an ebook reader. Period. That simple deal with may have Amazon aligned nicely in the ebook reader market.
In my opinion, the iPad and Kindle 2 will win out in this battle of the ebook readers. If you are going to spend a lot of money, or want a colorful device that uses apps, why wouldn’t you just get the iPad. If you want to go cheaper, why wouldn’t someone just get the Kindle 2, the simple, well-proven ebook reader on the market?
Apple’s iPad and Kindle 2 will doubtless gain even more ground on the competition with their international service.
